Each year in February, Calusa Musicale sponsors Junior Festival. This event is held in conjunction with the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Florida Federation of Music Clubs. Students may enter in piano, organ, voice, winds, strings, percussion and theory. There is a vast array of categories and levels within each discipline, and students perform before a panel of qualified judges. They receive a rating (superior, excellent, satisfactory, etc.) and comments from the judges. Any student who receives a superior is eligible to compete at the Florida Federation State Junior Convention.
The 2010 FFMC Junior Convention will be held at U. of North Florida in Jacksonville on May 7 and 8. Everyone should go to http://ffmc-music.org/junior.htm for deadline information, forms, instructions, and hotel lists with reduced rates for the Federation.
Students who perform at Junior Festival must be students of a federated teacher. Teachers may be federated by being members of Calusa Musicale, our local Senior Music Club, or by being individual members of the Florida Federation of Music Clubs. Teachers must also have a registered Junior Club with the FFMC.
